Love for the country

As much as I know about Dr. Zafarullah Sir, I am fascinated. He is one of the best people I have ever met. He has been a student of resistance against injustice, love of country, infinite love for the people and endless and unconditional love for the country. Sir, as long as he lives, he has sacrificed his life for this country and nation and the medical system and will continue to do so. He is currently receiving treatment for three corona viruses and a conversation with a journalist is highlighted below.

Journalist: Why are you at home without going to the hospital even though the cabin is booked?

Dr. Zafarullah Sir: I am a doctor. I am also working on corona disease. I know when the corona patient has to go to the hospital and when to stay at home. Corona has to go to the hospital as soon as she is identified, which is absolutely not right.

If I go to the hospital and get up in the cabin, it will send the wrong message to the people that they have to go to the hospital as soon as they are identified. I don't want to send the wrong message to corona patients. As a result, I am at home without going to the hospital, despite having to book a cabin for me. This is the correct treatment for corona disease.

This is what everyone should do. There is no place in the hospital. If those who are not needed go to the hospital, then the crisis will increase.

Journalist: Where did you take plasma therapy?

Dr. Zafarullah Sir: I have taken plasma therapy at Public Health City Hospital.

Journalist: Is there a plasma therapy system?

Dr. Zafarullah Sir: Why not? If we can't treat ourselves in the hospital we have built, then there is no point in having it. Why keep the hospital where we cannot treat ourselves? Why build that hospital? I do all my treatment in our hospital.

18 years ago today, when I needed an eye operation, I had it done at a public health center. I was then a member of the World Health Organization. At that time, I could do free eye surgery in any country in the world, even in the most developed hospital in the most developed country in the world. But, I didn’t do that. I never wanted to give any wrong information or wrong message among the people. I did the eye operation in our hospital and I wanted to explain to the people of Bangladesh that this operation can be done in Bangladesh too and it is very standard.

About 18 years ago, I had an eye operation that was successfully performed by a hospital in Bangladesh, that is, our hospital. To this day I have no problem with my eyes. I don't even have to use glasses.

My American-European friends have said many times with initiative, come on. We will arrange your kidney transplant free of cost. Did not agree Because, I will take advantage alone and all the people of Bangladesh will be deprived, it cannot happen.

Note: People like Dr. Zafarullah Sir are rarely born in this country. From that student state there was, is and will be an unjust protest, love for the people and infinite affection and genuine love for the country. He is one of my favorite people. If I ever had a chance to meet Sir, I would look at him a little and ask him if the people of this country are indebted to you and how to repay this debt, sir. Pray for this great patriotic man.

দেশের জন্য ভালবাসা

ডাঃ জাফরুল্লাহ স্যার সম্পর্কে যত জানতে পারছি ততই মুগ্ধ হয়ে গেছি। বর্তমান সময়ে আমার দেখা ভালো মানুষগুলোর মধ্যে তিনি হলেন একটি। তিনি সেই ছাত্র অবস্থা থেকেই অন্যায়ের প্রতিরোধ, দেশ প্রেম, মানুষের প্রতি অসীম ভালোবাসা সর্বপরি দেশের জন্য অফুরন্ত ও অকৃতিম ভালোবাসা। স্যার যত দিন বেঁচে থাকবে এই দেশ ও জাতি এবং চিকিৎসা ব্যবস্থার প্রতি নিজের জীবনকে উৎস্বর্গ করেছে ও করছে এবং করতে থাকবে। বর্তমানে তিন করোনা ভাইরাসে আক্রন্ত হয়ে চিকিৎসা গ্রহন করছেন এবং সাংবাদিকের সঙ্গে কথোপকথন নিচে তুলে ধরা হলো।

সাংবাদিকঃ কেবিন বুকড থাকার পরও আপনি হাসপাতালে না গিয়ে বাসায় আছেন কেন ?

ডাঃ জাফরুল্লাহ স্যারঃ আমি তো ডাক্তার। করোনা রোগ নিয়েও কাজ করছি। আমি জানি, করোনা রোগীর কোন সময় হাসপাতালে যেতে হবে আর কোন সময় বাসায় থাকতে হবে। করোনা শনাক্ত হওয়ার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে হাসপাতালে চলে যেতে হবে, এটি একেবারেই ঠিক নয়।

আমি যদি হাসপাতালে গিয়ে কেবিনে উঠি তাহলে জনগণের কাছে ভুল বার্তা যাবে যে, শনাক্ত হাওয়ার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে হাসপাতালে চলে যেতে হয়। করোনা রোগীদের জন্যে আমি ভুল বার্তা দিতে চাই না। ফলে, আমার জন্যে ঢামেকে কেবিন বুকিং দিয়ে রাখা সত্ত্বেও আমি হাসপাতালে না গিয়ে বাসায় আছি। এটাই করোনা রোগের সঠিক চিকিৎসা পদ্ধতি।

সবার ক্ষেত্রে এটাই করা উচিত। এমনিতেই হাসপাতালে জায়গা নেই। যাদের দরকার নেই তারাও যদি হাসপাতালে চলে যাই, তাহলে তো সংকট আরও বাড়বে।

সাংবাদিকঃ আপনি প্লাজমা থেরাপি কোথায় নিলেন ?

ডাঃ জাফরুল্লাহ স্যারঃ গণস্বাস্থ্য নগর হাসপাতালে প্লাজমা থেরাপি নিয়েছি।

 

সাংবাদিকঃ সেখানে প্লাজমা থেরাপির ব্যবস্থা আছে ?

ডাঃ জাফরুল্লাহ স্যারঃ থাকবে না কেন? আমরা একটা হাসপাতাল বানিয়েছি সেই হাসপাতালে যদি আমাদের নিজেদের চিকিৎসাই করতে না পারি, তাহলে তা থাকারই কোনো অর্থ নেই। যে হাসপাতালে আমরা নিজেদের চিকিৎসা করতে পারব না, সেই হাসপাতাল রাখব কেন? সেই হাসপাতাল তৈরি করব কেন? আমি আমার সব রকমের চিকিৎসা আমাদের হাসপাতালে করি।

আজ থেকে ১৮ বছর আগে যখন আমার চোখের অপারেশন করা দরকার হয়েছিল তখন আমি তা গণস্বাস্থ্য কেন্দ্রে করিয়েছিলাম। তখন আমি বিশ্ব স্বাস্থ্য সংস্থার সদস্য ছিলাম। সেসময় পৃথিবীর যে কোনো দেশে, পৃথিবীর সবচেয়ে উন্নত দেশের উন্নত হাসপাতালটিতেও আমি বিনা পয়সায় চোখের অপারেশন করাতে পারতাম। কিন্তু, আমি তা করাইনি। জনগণের মাঝে কখনোই কোনো ভুল তথ্য বা ভুল বার্তা দিতে চাইনি। চোখের অপারেশন আমি আমাদের হাসপাতালেই করিয়েছি এবং বাংলাদেশের মানুষকে বুঝাতে চেয়েছি যে এই অপারেশন বাংলাদেশেও করা যায় এবং তা খুবই মানসম্পন্ন।

প্রায় ১৮ বছর আগে আমি চোখে যে অপারেশন করিয়েছিলাম তা বাংলাদেশের হাসপাতাল তথা আমাদের হাসপাতাল সফলভাবে করেছিল। আজকে পর্যন্ত আমার চোখে কোনো সমস্যা নাই। আমাকে চশমাও ব্যবহার করতে হয় না।

আমার আমেরিকা-ইউরোপের বন্ধুরা অনেকবার উদ্যোগ নিয়ে বলেছে, চলে আসো। বিনা খরচে আমরা তোমার কিডনি ট্রান্সপ্লান্টের ব্যবস্থা করবো। রাজি হইনি। কারণ, আমি একা সুবিধা নেব আর বাংলাদেশের সব মানুষ বঞ্চিত থাকবে, তা হতে পারে না।

নোটঃ ডাঃ জাফরুল্লাহ স্যার মতো লোক এই দেশে খুব কম জন্ম গ্রহন করে। সেই ছাত্র অবস্থা থেকে অন্যায়র প্রতিবাদ, জনগনের প্রতি ভালোবাসা এবং দেশের প্রতি অসীম মমত্ববোধ এবং অকৃতীম ভালোবাসা ছিল, আছে এবং থাকবে। আমার প্রিয় মানুষগুলোর মধ্যে তিনি হলেন অন্যতম। যদি কখনো স্যারের সাথে দেখা হওয়ার সুযোগ হয়, তাহলে তাকে একটু মনভরে দেখতাম এবং প্রশ্ন করতাম আপনার কাছে এই দেশের জনগন আপনার কাছে ঋণী এবং এই ঋণ কিভাবে পরিষোধ করবো বলে যান স্যার। এই মহান দেশপ্রেমিক মানুষটির জন্য দোয়া করবেন।
