Living Eagle Saiful Azam

Group Captain Saiful Azam (born 1941) is a retired Air Force officer who served as a fighter pilot with the Pakistan Air Force in the years before 1971. He was imprisoned by the Pakistani authorities during the Bangladesh War of Independence in 1971. After the independence of Bangladesh, he returned to his homeland and joined the Bangladesh Air Force. He died on June 14, 2020 at 1.00 pm. Not only Bangladesh but the military forces all over the world will remember him with respect.

Azam was born in 1941 in the village of Khagarbaria in Faridpur upazila of Pabna district (formerly known as East Pakistan). After the British left the Indian subcontinent, after staying in Calcutta for several years, he moved to East Pakistan with his family in 1947). Before joining the Pakistan Air Force in 1956, Azam successfully piloted in 1958 and moved to Pakistan in 1970.

Twenty-two (22) "living eagles" of the world, the pilot of the legendary warplane group Captain Saiful Azam died at the Dhaka Cantonment Military Hospital this afternoon.

Azam, who was the pilot of the legendary battle in the history of the world's highest number of combat aircraft destroyed Israel.

He is probably the only fighter pilot in the history of the world who has taken part in direct combat by flying in the sky with fighter jets from four countries (Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iraq and Jordan). For his unparalleled bravery on the battlefield, he was awarded military medals from Pakistan (Sitara-i Jurrat), Iraq (Nur al-Sujhat) and Jordan (Order of Ishtiklal).

Saiful Azam is the only fighter pilot who flew for the three air forces (Jordan, Iraq and Pakistan) in the war, as well as the unique distinction of killing against two separate air forces (India and Israel). As of 2012, according to the Pakistani government, he held the record for shooting more Israeli aircraft than any other pilot. They also point out that the United States Air Force honored Azam in 2001 and that Azam was "one of the twenty-two living eagles in the world."

Note: Like Saiful Azam Sir, no one has made such a great achievement in the history of Bangladesh in the past and whether this will be achieved in the future, my question remains. I was very surprised to know that the Bangladesh government has not given him any military honors till date. But we were able to pay due respect to the last farewell of this star? He was 79 years old at the time of his death. Saiful Azam died on 14 June 2020 at the Combined Military Hospital.

আজম ১৯৪১ সালে পাবনা জেলা, (পূর্বে, পূর্ব পাকিস্তান নামে পরিচিত) ফরিদপুর উপজেলা খাগারবাড়িয়া গ্রামে জন্মগ্রহণ করেছিলেন। ব্রিটিশরা ভারতীয় উপমহাদেশ ছেড়ে যাওয়ার পরে, কলকাতায় বেশ কয়েক বছর থাকার পরে, তিনি ১৯৪৭ সালে তাঁর পরিবার নিয়ে পূর্ব পাকিস্তানে চলে আসেন)। ১৯৫৬ সালে পাকিস্তান বিমানবাহিনীতে যোগদানের আগে ১৯৫৮ সালে সাফল্যের সাথে পাইলট হয়ে আজম ১৯৬০ সালে পাকিস্তানে চলে আসেন।

সাইফুল আজম ছিলেন বাংলাদেশের সেই কিংবদন্তী যুদ্ধ বিমানের পাইলট যিনি এখন পর্যন্ত পৃথিবীর ইতিহাসে সর্বোচ্চ সংখ্যক ইসরাঈলী যুদ্ধ বিমান ধ্বংস করেছিলেন।

তিনি সম্ভবত পৃথিবীর ইতিহাসে একমাত্র যুদ্ধবিমানের পাইলট যিনি চারটি দেশের (পাকিস্তান, বাংলাদেশ, ইরাক ও জর্ডান) পক্ষ নিয়ে যুদ্ধ বিমান নিয়ে আকাশে উড়ে সরাসরি যুদ্ধে অংশগ্রহন করেছেন। যুদ্ধক্ষেত্রে তার অসম সাহসিকতার জন্য তিনি পাকিস্তান ( সিতারা-ই জুররাত ), ইরাক ( নূর আল সুজহাত ) ও জর্ডান ( অর্ডার অব ইশতিকলাল ) থেকে সামরিক পদকে ভূষিত হয়েছেন।

সাইফুল আজম একমাত্র যোদ্ধা পাইলট রয়েছেন যিনি যুদ্ধে তিনটি বিমান বাহিনী (জর্ডান, ইরাক এবং পাকিস্তান) এর জন্য উড়ে এসেছিলেন এবং পাশাপাশি দুটি পৃথক বিমানবাহিনী (ভারত ও ইস্রায়েল) এর বিরুদ্ধে হত্যা করার অনন্য স্বাতন্ত্র্যও রয়েছে। ২০১২ সালের হিসাবে, পাকিস্তান সরকারের মতে, তিনি অন্য পাইলটের চেয়ে ইস্রায়েলি বিমানের বেশি শ্যুটিংয়ের রেকর্ডটি রেখেছিলেন। তারা এও ইঙ্গিত করে যে আমেরিকা যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের বিমানবাহিনী ২০০১ সালে আযমকে সম্মান জানিয়েছিল এবং আজম "বিশ্বের বাইশ 'লিভিং ইগলগুলির মধ্যে একটি এবং অন্যতম"।
